There have certainly been some major changes in the Command & Conquer series during its long tenure. Listeners have heard everything from the exciting rocking soundtrack to Red Alert to the post-apocalyptic ambient soundscapes of Tiberian Sun to the multifarious collaborations of Red Alert 3. The stand-alone soundtracks have nevertheless remained fascinating and enjoyable with one notorious exception — Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. So no, this isn't the Command & Conquer you remember, though that isn't to say it isn't good. In fact, online play is rather fun when two equally matched teams are going at it, warring over those all-important towers and nabbing Tiberium crystals. It's a good-looking, nice-sounding game with the thick and colorful C&C attitude you hoped to see. Yet the limited focus and flabby campaign make Tiberian Twilight a disappointment nonetheless. For starters, I was working on a franchise that I personally loved — as did most of the development team. Second, Mike Verdu was an incredible dev partner, and he allowed me to participate in a lot of the key development decisions. I remember being in meetings around who we should cast for the FMVs — aside from Joe Kucan. Billy Dee Williams and Michael Ironside were probably my two biggest contributions on C&C 3 given my obsession for Star Wars and Starship Troopers! Getting to meet Lando was one of the best days in my EA career, and Billy Dee Williams is one of the nicest — and coolest — actors I’ve ever met. The game was definitely ahead of its time and we did a lot of things in the marketing that was truly break-thru (such as C&C TV).
The attention to detail is also superb. Buildings degenerate as your shells and bullets pound them, sagging, cracking, charring and then tumbling down. Vanquished vehicles no longer just explode, they spew out their contents, sending ragdoll corpses arcing through the air on waves of fire. Meanwhile, back at your base, small repair droids buzz around autonomously fixing any damaged units that lie within your immediate borders.
Command & Conquer: Rivals Android
Played as bait-and-switch in Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars, where the Sufficiently Advanced Aliens fall prey to Kane's diabolical Evil Plan. Kane engineers a liquid tiberium explosion to advertise Earth as a disabled planet and trigger a premature alien invasion, permitting the still-powerful GDI to slaughter the aliens, then recover their technology. This is reflected in the Scrin campaign, where initial confidence quickly gives way to damage control, followed by a hasty evacuation of the invading forces. They only helped Kane's Evil Plan along.

During the transition from Westwood to EA LA, several projects were started only to be canceled before release. These titles included Renegade 2, Command and Conquer: Continuum which seemed to be an MMO of some sort and Command and Conquer: Tiberium Incursion, another RTS. The sheer number of projects being canceled indicated that EA was simply expecting too much from their developers, a point emphasized by the fact they were now expanding the Command and Conquer universe into 3 genres. The pressure became too much for most and a large portion of the original team from Westwood Studios left EA to form Petroglyph Studios which was soon after bought by Lucasarts. Lucasarts you might know, hold the license to the Star Wars franchise which allowed Petroglyph Studios to produce Star Wars: Empire at War, a game I never played but am yet to hear a negative comment about.
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight offers two campaigns with a total of twelve missions. The plot covers the Incursion War between GDI and Nod separatists hostile to both GDI and Kane, the mysterious leader of the Brotherhood of Nod. GDI wants to establish the so-called Tiberium Control Network, a global net of nodes designed to contain Tiberium. The separatists, to whom Tiberium is sacred, seek to destroy it. The player does not, however, work for the separatists. Instead, they receive their orders from Kane and Brother Marcus, a high-ranking Nod commander. On the GDI side of things, orders are issued by Colonel Louise James, a main character in the Windows version of Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight, and General Raven.
The “single-player” campaign is now fully co-operative. Each mission is played alongside an ally. When played online, this is another human player. Offline it is one of several computer-controlled characters. Teams share income and generally start with the same forces. Computerized characters can be given simple commands, such as an order to take a specific position or to strike a specific target. The campaign has nine missions for each side. Each side’s plotlines are mutually exclusive, unlike Tiberium Wars and its preceding and following expansion packs, but like most of the other Command & Conquer games.
